Property, Houses and Flats for Sale in Isleworth, Middlesex

A slice of the easy life out west in Isleworth.

Living in Isleworth

If you're looking for a more relaxed way of life, Isleworth may be the place for you. Savvy buyers have been drawn to this quiet enclave for years for its reasonable prices and reasonable links in to and out of town.

Isleworth is one of those undiscovered suburban areas that people drive past on their way to Heathrow without noticing it, but it's considered to be a great place to live with lots to offer and a great community feel.

It is a cheaper alternative to Ealing or Richmond, which are the traditional areas people move to when they want to be on the western fringes of the city. And, although many people don't know where it is, Isleworth's location is one of its biggest assets.

The good schools and low crime rates have attracted young families in particular. There are plenty of large 1930s semi-detached houses, which are very popular.

The Spring Grove area of Isleworth with its Victorian family houses is sought after, and new luxury developments by the river attract younger buyers. Old Isleworth has period properties, a picturesque village vibe and river views.

First-time buyers are attracted to the town for its affordability, in particular close to the station where there are period conversion flats and new developments of apartments.

Transport

Isleworth mainline station goes to Waterloo. The closest tube stations are Osterley and Hounslow East, both in Zone 4 on the Piccadilly Line.

The A4 and links to the A3 make it easy to get in and out of town, and the M4 is also on the doorstep.

The proximity of Heathrow is handy for frequent travellers.

History and culture

Isleworth has a strong artistic heritage: Joseph Mallord William Turner moved there in 1804, drawing inspiration from the picturesque banks of the Thames. Vincent Van Gogh moved to Isleworth in 1876 to become a teacher and assistant preacher at a local school.

The town was also home to Francis Pear's famous soap-making empire for a century from 1862.

There's plenty of parkland in the area, with Kew Gardens close by and the local green spaces of Osterley and Syon Park.

Also in Syon Park is the Heritage Motor Museum, with the largest collection of British cars in the world. Syon House is worth a visit, if only to see the interesting results of three centuries of architectural baton changing.

And of course, there's the River Thames, which provides pleasant recreational opportunities.
