West Brompton is one of the finest residential areas in London, with the commercial buzz of Chelsea on its doorstep.
Living in West Brompton
West Brompton lies between Fulham Broadway, Earls Court and Chelsea, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and it is a residential area that has more than come into its own.
Starting at the top, The Boltons is an oval shaped garden bordered by some of the grandest and most expensive houses in London.
In the middle of the gardens is the beautiful church of St Mary, a popular venue for weddings and christenings.
In the streets linked to The Boltons such as Tregunter Road, the houses are almost equally grand with surprisingly few converted into flats.
South of The Boltons is Fulham Road and a cul-de-sac called Seymour Walk where the exquisite houses date from 1797.
Almost opposite Seymour Walk is Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. Built in the early 1990s, it is an impressive building graced with modern art and state-of-the-art medical facilities.
To the west of the hospital are the traffic arteries of Redcliffe Gardens flowing south and Finborough Road flowing north. Lining the thoroughfares are many grand houses with portico entrances that were converted into flats and bedsits in the 1950s and '60s.
North End Road marks West Brompton's western border and is renowned for its fresh food street market.
Old Brompton Road and Earls Court Road offer a vast array of shops and convenience stores including dry cleaners, butchers, cafes, bakers, delicatessens, pubs and the usual selection of High Street banks.
Transport
West Brompton station is a train station and also a tube station on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line.
Mainline train services run to Rugby in the north and Brighton in the south via Milton Keynes and Clapham Junction.
Neighbouring Earls Court tube station is on three branches of the District Line and also the Piccadilly Line, which provides a direct link to Heathrow Airport. Other stations within the area are Fulham Broadway and Parsons Green.
