Excellent amenities including London's largest park are just a few of the reasons why East Sheen is so desirable.
Living in East Sheen
East Sheen is a charming, affluent, residential suburb lying between Upper Richmond Road and Richmond Park, London's largest park.
There are wide, leafy streets and a great mix of outstanding property including mid 19th century artisan cottages, an assortment of Victorian and Edwardian houses, and substantial houses built in the 20th century.
Approaching the entrance to Richmond Park at East Sheen Gate, many of the large houses enjoy an incredibly rural environment, especially the properties that are close to Sheen Wood and East Sheen Common.
The little roads leading off Christ Church Road are particularly quaint and as you sip a pint in the local pub, it is easy to imagine that you are in a tiny rural village far away from London.
East Sheen offers excellent local schools, with at least six primary schools in the general area, including East Sheen Primary School.
The local secondary school is Shene Comprehensive (the spelling is correct), which is co-educational and scores well in the league tables.
There is also a good choice of independent schools within easy travelling distance of East Sheen and the Royal Ballet School is situated in the middle of Richmond Park.
Upper Richmond Road West has numerous cafés, classy restaurants and plenty of shops, including a Waitrose. East of Sheen Lane is Palewell Common, which has a children's playground, playing fields and a pitch and putt golf course.
Transport
Mortlake and North Sheen railway stations provide a frequent service to Putney, Clapham Junction and London Waterloo.
In the opposite direction is Richmond station and adjacent is Richmond District line tube station, which links to the London underground network via Earl's Court.
East Sheen is served by a good choice of bus routes, although Upper Richmond Road (A205) can get clogged up with commuter traffic during peak periods. For details of buses including times and a map please visit www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/
History and culture
Due north of East Sheen is Mortlake, an area equally as popular but with views of the River Thames and the finishing point for the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.
Richmond-upon-Thames is just down the road from East Sheen and has a beautiful late Victorian theatre and a choice of cinemas. For tickets and information regarding shows at Richmond Theatre, please visit http://www.theambassadors.com/richmond/
