Alive with local bars and restaurants and a fast rail link to the heart of London, Earlsfield continues to attract young singles and growing families.
Living in Earlsfield
A little over a hundred years ago, Earlsfield was lush countryside originally owned by Earl Spencer, an ancestor of the late Princess Diana. Today, thanks to the railway station, it is a popular residential area comprising Victorian terraced houses and numerous independent shops and restaurants.
Not as pricey as neighbouring Southfields, Earlsfield has plenty to offer families with its good selection of local state schools, nurseries, library, and sports facilities including The Central London Golf Centre. Most importantly, Earlsfield Station offers a fast, regular service to Clapham Junction, Vauxhall and London Waterloo.
North along Garratt Lane, Earlsfield's main through road, is a Sainsbury's supermarket with parking. Opposite is Southside Wandsworth - once the Arndale Centre but, following the spending of many millions, now an attractive shopping mall. Southside Wandsworth boasts numerous shops and stores including a Waitrose supermarket, Mothercare and Primark, complemented by several places to eat, a multi-screen Cineworld and excellent parking.
The River Wandle flows parallel to Garratt Lane and, after years of conveying industrial pollution, is now a clean tributary of the River Thames and a fitting symbol of today's vibrant Earlsfield.
Transport
Earlsfield Station is served by South West Trains, and there are several trains per hour to London Waterloo.
By foot, Southfields tube station is about a twenty-minute walk from Earlsfield and is on the District line between Wimbledon and Earl's Court.
Earlsfield is served by three bus routes linking residents to Tooting, Mitcham, Wandsworth, Putney, Battersea, Victoria, Clapham and London Waterloo.

History and culture
Earlsfield retains much of its Victorian heritage and on days when it is free of commuter traffic, it is easy to imagine how it once must have looked.
Immediately east of Earlsfield Station is Wandsworth Cemetery, a haven of tranquillity away from the commuter traffic on Magdalen Road.
About a mile from Earlsfield, where Magdalen Road meets Trinity Road, is the vast expanse of Wandsworth Common and, on its south side, the delightful independent shops and restaurants of Bellevue Road.
