Property, Houses and Flats for Sale in Catford, South East London

Property for sale in Catford

The name ‘Catford’ may derive from wildcats crossing the River Ravensbourne at a ford, but it’s more likely to come from cattle crossing at the ford. Despite that, Catford's most prominent landmark is the Catford Cat, a giant fibreglass sculpture of a black cat above the entrance to the Catford Centre. This is a small shopping centre, housing Tesco and Iceland supermarkets as well as some independent shops in Catford Mews – pun was most definitely intended! Catford is in the London Borough of Lewisham and covered by the postcode SE6. Property for sale in Catford is a mix of between the wars and post-war architecture, traditional Victorian terraced houses, and high value modern developments. Houses in Catford for around £240,000 offer three bedrooms in a mid-terrace Victorian house or three bedrooms in a semi-detached 1930s’ house. An Edwardian family home in a conservation area offering four or five bedrooms would be on the market for £450,000. Flats in Catford in a purpose-built apartment block with one bedroom, one reception and one bathroom begin at £125,000. Two bedrooms in a substantial, Victorian house conversion, estate agents in Catford suggest an asking price of around £180,000.

Amenities for Catford properties

Catford has several pubs and a variety of non-chain restaurants and cafes and a street market on Catford Broadway. The 1960s and ’70s had a considerable impact on the architecture of Catford but the Broadway theatre, a fine art deco building, was spared the bulldozer and adjoins the town hall. There are a number of primary and secondary schools in Catford, including St Dunstan’s College, an independent day school for boys and girls from age 4 to 18.

Transport in Catford

Catford is well connected for public transport, with two adjacent stations where railway lines cross (but do not interchange). The railway station in Catford is on the route between Blackfriars station and Sevenoaks via Bromley South, while the station at Catford Bridge is on the Mid-Kent line to Hayes from Charing Cross and Cannon Street stations. As well as the railway stations, there is Catford bus garage, providing many routes towards Central London and out towards Bromley.
