Stylish, diverse and fashionable – just a few words used to describe areas in North West London.

Living in North West London

North West London comprises a diverse selection of areas, including cosmopolitan Camden, leafy Hampstead and the centre of Jewish middle-class life in London – Golders Green.

Camden Town borders Regents Park on its west side and is a convenient half hour's walk from Oxford Street.

At weekends, the high street turns into a sea of people jostling their way through the shops and market stalls, which is all part of the charm.

Away from the hubbub there are odd Regency squares and crescents where intact houses sell for over £1m. Regents Park Road commands even higher prices and is home to literati like Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennett.

Elsewhere, Georgian terraces rub shoulders with 1960s purpose built blocks and this diverse mix makes Camden more affordable than other, equally central areas.

Belsize Park is a fashionable part of London. Its eclectic architecture and sense of history combine with ready access to Regent's Park, Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath, making it a beautiful environment to live in.

Amongst the desirable neighbourhoods in Belsize park 'The Crofts' (Ferncroft Avenue, Hollycroft Avenue, Rosecroft Avenue), 'The Stucco's' (Belsize Square, Belsize Park, Belsize Park Gardens, Buckland Crescent), Redington Road and Templewood Avenue are particularly popular.

Nowhere else in London is quite like Hampstead: an ancient and modern village with an interesting variety of homes and an eclectic community of residents who use the 800-acre heath as their own back garden.

Excellent transport links, good cafés, bars and restaurants, and a young energetic feel to West Hampstead make it a popular place for young professional renters and first time buyers.

Other areas to consider in North West London include Primrose Hill, St Johns Wood, Kentish Town and [[Hendon].

Transport

The majority of areas in North West London have their own tube stations, predominantly on the Jubilee, Northern and Bakerloo lines.

There are also a number of mainline stations, including Hampstead Heath, Gospel Oak, South Hampstead and Finchley Road & Frognal, with regular services to Central London (all on Silverlink).

The Thameslink service linking Bedford to Brighton via Central London is accessible from West Hampstead.

This fast, frequent service can get you to Luton Airport in around 40 minutes, Gatwick Airport in about an hour and down to Brighton in as little as an hour and a half.

History and culture

North West London is full of interesting places.

Lord's in St Johns Wood has long been seen as the 'Home of Cricket' and the game's spiritual headquarters. To this day it is perhaps the most important single place in world cricket. For further information visit www.lords.org/

The rolling acres of Hampstead Heath, Regent's Park and Primrose Hill provide the area with wonderful outdoor recreational facilities.

One of the most colourful and bohemian places in London has to be Camden, with one of London’s most popular open-air market areas with stalls, restaurants, shops and pubs.

The desirable area of Hampstead was first mentioned in a charter of King Edgar (10th Century). Today trendy shops and arty cafés line the high street, and Hampstead Heath provides an oasis for urban stresses.
