Property for sale in Hornsey

Hornsey is in the London Borough of Haringey and covered by the postal district, N8. Most of the area has been developed since Edwardian times, but the tower of the original parish church still stands in its ancient graveyard in Hornsey High Street. Other notable historic places are Hornsey Town Hall, Cromwell House, and world-famous Alexandra Palace, the birthplace of television. Former residents include poets Coleridge and Housman and revolutionary Ho Chi Minh. Comic actor Peter Sellers and poet & conservationist John Betjeman both grew up in the area. The Old Schoolhouse was built in 1848 by the Rector as the Infants' school, and is the N8 area's oldest building after Hornsey Old Church. Property for sale in Hornsey varies greatly and includes substantial late Victorian houses with five or six bedrooms, typical Edwardian three-bedroom terraced houses, between the wars properties, local authority development, and attractive new build. Hornsey Estate agents will put a three-bedroom Victorian mid-terrace house, in good order, on the market for £400,000. Four and five bedroom houses, both new build and Edwardian, command over £600,000. New homes in Hornsey offering two bedrooms in a Victorian conversion would be on the market for over £225,000.

Amenities for Hornsey properties

Estate agents in Hornsey happily confirm that the area is a property hotspot and its popularity with house hunters has led to several bars and restaurants opening on the High Street in recent years. The area has two secondary schools: one formerly known as St. David and St. Katherine’s (D&K), which has now reopened as Greig City Academy; and Hornsey School for Girls which is usually the second best school in the borough, when it comes to league tables. Hornsey is an urban environment but there are a few green spaces to be found including Alexandra Park to the north and Queen’s Wood and Highgate Wood to the west.
