Highburys shooting up the property premiership.
Living in Highbury
Highbury is located between other equally popular northern districts including Finsbury Park, Islington, Holloway and Stoke Newington.
Property in Highbury is predominantly Victorian and in a vast range of sizes, from large family houses overlooking Highbury Fields to grand mansion blocks and smaller terraces surrounding the football ground.
Flats and conversions are plentiful with several new developments around Drayton Park. One of the most sought after areas is Highbury Fields, which is picture perfect, with its tennis courts, a sports centre and pool.
A more affordable property hotspot is Highbury Barn, a street with a village feel known for its decent restaurants and delicatessens.
Another desirable area is St Paul's Road, with the bonus that the station is just a couple of minutes' walk away. Highbury's nightlife is also within stumbling distance.
Arsenal fans can choose high spec living in apartments and penthouses in the Gunners' old home, which has recently been redeveloped and renamed 'The Stadium-Highbury Square'.
Paying tribute to the football terraces original rectangular arrangement, the apartments face inwards towards a central garden square which occupies the exact dimensions of the former pitch.
Highbury has a mixture of professionals, students and social housing residents, creating a multicultural and relaxed atmosphere.
Transport
The main station, Highbury and Islington, is served by the Victoria Line and two overground lines. Other nearby stations include Canonbury, Drayton Park and Arsenal tube station on the Piccadilly Line.
A number of bus routes operate from Highbury Corner in to the City and the West End. For more detailed information on travelling around London visit www.tfl.gov.uk.
History and culture
Highbury is probably best known for being home to Arsenal Stadium, known almost universally by its original name of Highbury as the Football Club's home since 1913, when the decision was made to leave The Manor Ground in Plumstead.
Today Arsenal Football Club is housed in the magnificent Emirates Stadium, the construction of which created 1,800 new jobs and 2,000 new homes in the area.
As well as being a popular residential area, Highbury has also featured highly in London-based films including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Fever Pitch and Killing Her Softly.
