Piccadilly is Londons golden spine, replete with all that societys elite could wish for by way of restaurants, shops and culture.
Living in Piccadilly
Running almost straight as an arrow from Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly is one of the most famous streets in the world.
Piccadilly culminates in Piccadilly Circus, the heart of London and the gateway to the West End with its numerous museums, art galleries, theatres, cinemas and restaurants.
Lying within the City of Westminster, Piccadilly has Mayfair and Berkeley Square to the north and Green Park and St. James to the south.
Residential property for sale in the streets leading from Piccadilly is either a flat in a converted Grade II Regency house or a grand apartment in a Georgian or Victorian mansion block. Whole houses are rarely available.
Those who are fortunate to live in a mansion flat in St. Jamess often enjoy panoramic views of Green Park or St Jamess Park.
At street level, Piccadilly is renowned for its upmarket stores such as Fortnum & Mason, Hatchards and Alfred Dunhill in Jermyn Street.
Leading from Piccadilly to the north are luxury retail outlets in Burlington Arcade and Old Bond Street, and in the spaces above the shops are many residential flats.
Hamleys, the world-famous toy store, is north of Piccadilly Circus on Regent Street, a short distance from Oxford Street which is laden with shops and department stores.
Transport
Piccadilly is a main traffic artery but to refer to it as the A4 diminishes its grandeur somewhat.
Green Park tube station lies on Piccadilly and is served by the Piccadilly Line, providing a direct route to Heathrow Airport via Knightsbridge.
Green Park is also served by the Victoria Line, which links to Victoria and to Kings Cross St Pancras railway stations. The Jubilee Line also passes through Green Park and connects to Canary Wharf via Westminster and Waterloo.

History and culture
Piccadilly and St Jamess have been prime real estate for the rich and powerful for centuries. The area is steeped in historic houses such as St. James's Palace, Clarence House, Marlborough House, Lancaster House and Spencer House.
Until the 17th century Piccadilly was known as Portugal, after Portugal Street but a tailor, who had amassed a fortune selling piccadills (stiff collars with a lace border), purchased what was then countryside to the west of London and, in 1612, built a large house which he named Piccadilly Hall.
The Ritz Hotel first opened its doors in 1906. Tea at the Ritz in the hotels opulent Palm Court is so popular that booking weeks in advance is essential. For further information please visit http://www.theritzlondon.com/.
On the north side of Piccadilly is The Royal Academy of Arts, renowned for hosting numerous exhibitions including its famous Summer Exhibition. For current information regarding exhibitions please click http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/.
Two of Londons most famous theatres are in the Haymarket, just a gentle stroll from Piccadilly Circus.
The Theatre Royal Haymarket has one of the grandest entrances in London and, opposite, Her Majesty's Theatre is home to Andrew Lloyd Webbers The Phantom of the Opera.
