Marylebone's location in the heart of London's West End makes it a highly desirable area to live and work.
Living in Marylebone
Marylebone contains some of London's most beautiful Georgian architecture and includes the imaginative and attractive regeneration of London's best kept secrets - Marylebone High Street.
The area has properties ranging from opulent Robert Adam residences in Mansfield Street, spacious Georgian terraces in Harley Street, Wimpole Street as well mews properties with garages and small developments of new-build townhouses.
If you've always fancied a penthouse apartment with a garden, you will find plenty in this area. Many are located within a leisurely stroll from the designer stores, specialist shops and numerous restaurants along Marylebone's cosmopolitan High Street.
Period properties and portered buildings can be found in Marylebone's attractive garden squares, such as Bryanston Square, Montagu Square and Portman Square.
Elegant and highly sought after, Marylebone is also conveniently flanked on one side by the department stores and boutiques of Oxford Street, and on the other side by Regent's Park. The park comes alive in summer and is a great place for a picnic with the family, or to take in a play at the open air theatre.
Neighbouring areas that are worth investigating include Fitzrovia, Paddington, Mayfair, St. John's Wood and Bayswater.
Transport
Eurostar departs from nearby St Pancras International station and additional British Rail Stations at Paddington, Marylebone, Euston and King's Cross are all within close proximity.
The nearest tube stations include Great Portland Street, Regent's Park, Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Marble Arch, Edgware Road, Baker Street and Marylebone.
Additionally the area has a good supply of bus routes, including night buses. For a full list of bus routes visit www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/
History and culture
Steeped in history, Marylebone boasts museums, collections and exhibits including the Sherlock Holmes Museum, the Wallace Collection of fine arts, Madame Tussaud's and the London Planetarium, all big draws for tourists.
Named after the parish church of Saint Mary by the Bourne, Marylebone includes Harley Street, where you can pop out during your lunch hour for minor medical procedures.
Today there are over 3,000 people employed in the Harley Street area and the private clinics are modern, comfortable and welcoming; a far cry from the original days when Harley Street doctors arranged their own appointments and dealt with correspondence by letter in candle light and resided in the house itself. Today, as you would expect, practices are run by highly qualified, competent and professional medical and auxiliary staff using state of the art technology and equipment.
The Cabbages and Frocks upscale lifestyle market in Marylebone Village is where you will find a combination of continental and British mainly organic goodies, together with fashion, homewares and a variety of accessories.
