The Victorian seaside town of Morecambe is probably best known as the birthplace of Eric Morecambe (of the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise), and of Dame Thora Hird. There is a statue commemorating Eric Morecambe on the recently refurbished promenade. Local Morecambe estate agents say currently the town is undergoing a renaissance, with massive environmental and amenity improvements underway. A public art project centred on the promenade and stone jetty has won national acclaim for its originality and quality, while the restoration of the Midland Hotel and planned development of the adjacent 12 acre 'central promenade' site is key to a vibrant new future for the town. There is a good selection of property for sale in Morecambe, including detached bungalows, developments of modern family homes, traditional semi-detached houses and cottages built during the early 19th century.

Amenities for properties in Morecambe

Morecambe Bay has many facilities for the shopper, with the Arndale Shopping Centre, a twice weekly market, as well as many independent shops of a more traditional style. For those interested in local produce, perhaps the most famous are the Morecambe Bay Shrimps, which are still caught locally by family firms like James Baxter & Sons of Morecambe. If you enjoy eating out and are considering Morecambe property, you will discover the town has a medley of places to eat, cafés and tea shops, English restaurants or just takeaway fish and chips - take your pick. There is plenty to do in Morecambe, from outdoor pursuits in the nearby Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, or a walk in Happy Mount Park with its tranquil gardens and crown green bowling, as well as an indoor play area and new Aqua Park. In Morecambe's centre, ten-pin bowling, a laser adventure centre, and multi-screen cinema are good indoor activities.
