New Romney is a small seaside town on the edge of Romney Marsh and is of similar age as neighbouring, Old Romney. As one of the Cinque Ports, New Romney was a crucial part of England's naval defence for much of its history, but the silting up of the River Rother left New Romney stranded inland and these days it is about a mile from the seafront.

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway has a station south of New Romney, near the excellent links golf course at Littlestone-on-Sea, often used for the qualifying rounds of The Open Championship.
