Herne Bay is an attractive coastal town in the county of Kent, England, and is said to derive its name from the herons that used to appear there. It is situated near the Kent towns of Rochester, Maidstone and Margate and is a favourite destination for tourists from England and beyond. The town is only seven miles from the ancient city of Canterbury, and as such serves much of the population which is employed there.
