Hayling Island is a well-known holiday destination, famous for sailing and windsurfing (it was actually invented here!), with a population of 16,000. This island lies off the coast of southern England, in the county of Hampshire. A bridge on the north side of the T-shaped Island connects Hayling Island with England, and a road linking Northney to Langstone in the borough of Havant can also be used to reach the mainland. Hayling Island had a beautiful sandy beach until recently, when it was filled with pebbles to prevent sea erosion. However the tourists are still drawn to the island depite losing the sandy beach.
