The third biggest settlement in the county of Hampshire, Basingstoke has an impressive population of 152,000 occupants. The town sits 40 miles from London and 30 miles from Southampton, which makes it a popular choice for commuters. The town had considerable growth in the 1950s when it became vastly more populated in a short space of time, accommodating for what was then referred to as the London overspill. Since the 1950s, Basingstoke has taken in surrounding villages, which are now districts of the town. If you are looking for property for sale in Basingstoke you will be interested to know that the standard of living is generally high, with unemployment low. Local amenities are good, with plenty of shopping available in the centre in the shape of well-known department stores and shops. A multi-screen cinema entertains the masses, whilst there is a good choice of cafes and restaurants to keep the town well fed. The Top of Town is the historic centre of Basingstoke, housing the museum and the theatre. There are also several locally run shops, as well as the post office, and market square in this part of town.
Typical Basingstoke properties
Closer to the centre of town you are more likely to find period Basingstoke properties, as the expansion occurred from here, outwards. There will also be character housing in the surrounding districts of the centre, but here mainly you will find property built after the 1950s. Prices range from £80,000 for a studio and £4,000,000 for a 10-bedroom country estate, with something for everyone in between.
Basingstoke Estate Agents
As you would expect for a town of 152,000 people there are more than enough Basingstoke estate agents to go round. They will be only too happy to show you around properties until you find the one that suits.
