Robertsbridge was founded in 1176 when the Cistercian Abbey was built on the site of the current War Memorial. It is believed that the name of the village was derived from the bridge built by the first abbot, Robert de St Martin. Robertsbridge is considered to be one of the most haunted villages in the south-east of England but the ghosts haven't hurt house prices or the residents!
Property for sale in Robertsbridge offers a wonderful mix of period and contemporary houses in the most beautiful rural settings. As a guide, Grade II listed terraced cottages with two bedrooms in a good location are valued by Robertsbridge estate agents in the region of £200,000. Modern, semi-detached houses with four bedrooms and two or three bathrooms are available for around £300,000 whereas Victorian houses with the same accommodation would be on the market for £350,000. At the top end there are houses that can only be described as mansions with five, six or even eight bedrooms and asking prices in excess of £1.25M.
