Mayfield is a large village in north-east Sussex, eight miles south of Tunbridge Wells. The village sign shows a young woman in a field, reflecting the original Saxon name, Maghefeld, or Maid's Field. Mayfield prospered at the height of the iron industry, and much of its finest architecture dates from that time - such as 'Middle House' in the High Street, a splendid oak-beamed inn.

Property for sale in Mayfield includes a mix of period and modern houses, set within beautiful countryside. As a guide, estate agents in Mayfield value cottages offering two or three bedrooms in the region of £230,000, and close to £400,000 for houses with four bedrooms. Detached, Grade II listed cottages are typically priced at well-over £600,000. At the top end are some magnificent family houses with six bedrooms, in wonderful rural settings, priced between £1M and £2M.

Flats for sale in Mayfield are rare and are usually valued by Mayfield estate agents in the region of £150,000 for two bedrooms.

The village High Street has a good range of shops, including a pharmacy and grocery stores, and the aforementioned Middle House, which is a wonderful old pub.
