Wareham is an historic market town in the Purbeck region of Dorset, built on a low island between the marshy plains of the rivers Frome and Piddle. The quayside on the River Frome is a much admired beauty spot with many activities taking place during the summer months. To the north-west of Wareham is Wareham Forest, which stretches several miles to the A35 and, to the south-east, is a great expanse of heathland that leads to Studland Bay.

Houses for sale in Wareham are a mix of new-build detached and semi-detached houses; modern bungalows, period houses, thatched cottages and impressive homes in rural locations. As a guide to property prices, semi-detached modern houses offering two bedrooms are from £170,000; period houses and cottages offering three bedrooms are from £210,000 and modern detached houses and bungalows offering four bedrooms are from around £350,000. At the top end are substantial period houses offering up to six bedrooms that are on the market from £600,000.

Amenities for property in Wareham

Wareham is a very pretty town with many pubs, cafés and restaurants, extensive local shops and easy access to wonderful countryside and sandy beaches. A great fire destroyed much of the town in 1762 and only a few buildings survived, including St Martin's Church and a handful of cottages and almshouses. Fortunately, the town was rebuilt with impressive Georgian buildings. Wareham Town Museum, located in the lovely Victorian Town Hall, is free to visitors and The Rex Cinema, a gas-lit picture house, still screens films. There are two local state schools: Bere Regis First School and Wareham Middle School for children aged 9 - 13.

Transport in Wareham

Wareham is situated on the A351 Poole-Swanage road and at the eastern end of the A352 road to Dorchester and Sherborne. The railway station in Wareham is on the South Western Main Line and offers a journey time to London Waterloo of 2hrs 20mins.
