Verwood is a small town on the River Crane north of Bournemouth, with a population of about 13,000. Originally known as Fayrewood, the town is situated amid heathland which once covered the entire area. The famous Verwood Potteries and brick making grew from the heavy clay soil, and the work attracted many people to the town. Verwood pottery is considered collectable and the Verwood Heathland Heritage Centre is located on the site of the last pottery to close in 1953.
