There are traditional cottages, barn conversions, modern semi-detached family houses, retirement flats, as well as a selection of new houses in Dorchester which have been sympathetically built in a period style.

There are many other facilities and amenities in the town, including a modern hospital, a cinema, skate parks for children and the Thomas Hardy Leisure Centre. Further leisure facilities are planned as Phase II of the Poundbury development takes shape, and key worker accommodation is being planned on the site of the Old Eldridge Pope Brewery, to include NHS staff, police and teachers.
