Yelverton is a small town on the south-west edge of Dartmoor, halfway between Plymouth and Tavistock. During the Second World War, an airfield was constructed near Yelverton to defend Plymouth. Terraced Victorian houses in the village had their upper storey removed to provide an easier approach for aircraft.
