Property for sale in Kirkby-in-Furness
Overlooking the beautiful Duddon Estuary, Kirkby-in-Furness is the umbrella name for a collection of hamlets that line the A595, a few miles south of Lake District National Park. Many of the cottages in Kirkby-in-Furness were built to accommodate workers for the Burlington Slate Quarries in the 1800s and some of the residents that live in the cottages today continue the tradition of working for the company. Kirkby-in-Furness is edged north and south by lush countryside and to the east by Kirkby Moor, which rises to over 1,000 feet and is dominated by wind turbines. The name Kirkby-in-Furness was given to the new railway station by the Furness Railway company when it built the Cumbrian Coast Line. It was created to avoid singling out one of the six hamlets for the station name and causing local resentment.
Property for sale in Kirkby-in-Furness is a mix of terraced, stone-built cottages and post-war, semi-detached houses and bungalows. Estate agents in Kirkby-in-Furness also represent detached houses with integral garages and the occasional, substantial, period property. Houses for sale in Kirkby-in-Furness are surrounded by a patchwork of fields and hedgerows and, to the west, by salt marshes and mudflats that are a haven for birdlife.
