Looe is a town of two halves, joined together by a bridge across the river. East Looe has a sandy beach and a busy fishing harbour, whilst West Looe is quieter. Overlooking East and West Looe is St. Georges Island (or Looe Island), once owned by two sisters. Looe is located in a very rural area and the estate agents in Looe advise that travelling around the area is easier for people who have their own transport. West Looe is considered to be the more residential side of town, where there are elegant Victorian buildings, some of which are hotels and guest houses. There is a good selection of property for sale in Looe, some in positions benefiting from river views and some close to the seafront. Sadly, like many other small towns, Looe no longer has a commercial cinema, but a local charitable body Cinema by the Sea shows films at Looe Primary School about once a month using state of the art digital projection.
Looe is easily reached by car via the M5 and A38. By rail, Looe has a station on the Looe Valley Line which connects with the national rail system at Liskeard (services operate during the day only).
