Bude is a small seaside town at the top north west of Cornwall with a fairly unique character as a Cornish town that has evolved slowly and quietly. Bude is considered by local residents to have a friendly atmosphere, and is renowned for having one of the lowest rainfalls in the country. The estate agents in Bude say that people of retirement age and locals are their main customers, but there are also a growing number of families moving to the area, as well as people searching for holiday lets. Not everyone is looking for quaint period cottages; there have been a few new developments built in the last year or so, which are proving popular. As well as period cottages and new homes there is a variety of properties for sale in Bude, including bungalows, apartments in purpose built blocks on the outskirts of town benefiting from sea views, terraced houses within walking distance of the town centre and large semi-detached and detached family houses.
Budes busy high street has a good selection of shops and a large supermarket, catering for everyday needs, alongside a number of restaurants, cafés and pubs. People considering Bude property will discover the area is becoming increasingly popular with families, with a good selection of schools for children of all ages, Budehaven Community School (recently awarded Sports College status), as well as adult learning and training centres. The town has a cinema and a couple of night clubs. Bude outdoor sea pool can be found at Summerleaze, and for those who prefer the water temperature a little warmer, there is an indoor leisure pool in town. For active people, Bude has some of the best surfing beaches in the UK, and there are walks along the coastal footpath or inland along the Bude Canal, and many accredited activity schools teaching canoeing, kayaking and abseiling.
Bude is easily accessible by car via the M5 and A30. The nearest railway station is Exeter St Davids, from where First National operate regular coach services to Bude.
