Shefford is a small market town located in Bedfordshire between Hitchin and Bedford. The town was first mentioned in 1225 when it was granted a Royal Charter to hold a weekly market. The name Shefford is derived from Sheep Ford, as shepherds had to ford the rivers Flit and Hit.
