'Bracken-covered Hiding Place' is the meaning of the Saxon word, 'Bracknell'. Very little of the original Bracknell is left since Bracknell was designated a new town in 1949. The area was chosen over White Waltham because the Bracknell site avoided building on good quality agricultural land and it had the advantage of being near a railway line. The town centre is classic, 1960s' design and there are plans for regeneration to include new shops and facilities.
Property in Bracknell has expanded the town way beyond its intended size and further expansion is planned to the west. Bracknell estate agents will confirm that house prices in Bracknell are lower on average than in some of the surrounding areas. Three-bedroom terraced houses are from £210,000 with an average price of around £250,000. If you are looking for houses for sale in Bracknell offering four bedrooms there is a wide choice of very attractive houses from £280,000 although prices are closer to £340,000 for the most sought-after houses. Flats for sale in Bracknell with one bedroom in a purpose-built block are from £110,000 and flats offering two bedrooms from £140,000.
