Montenegro: a quiet but glamorous corner of Europe

International financier and Swiss resident Nat Rothschild just held his £100-a-bottle Taittinger champagne 40th birthday party in Montenegro and the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Pamela Anderson, Beyonce and 'Brangelina' have all been spotted in the nation's answer to Notting Hill, on the Adriatic.

Marina scheme

A modish cruising destination, Rothschild’s has put money into Porto Montenegro, a new marina scheme where high specification studios and one, two and three-bedroom homes in the Ozana Residences range cost from just over £200,000 to £1.647 million.

The price tag includes membership to the yacht club’s fitness centre and other concessions, while boat-besotted owners can get up to 75% off the rental of a berth.

But you don’t have to be a swanky superyacht-owning oligarch to enjoy Montenegro’s Balkan charms, says Louise Reynolds from Property Venture. She’s selling studios and one and two-bedroom apartments at Djenovici Springs near Herceg Novi from only £115,000.

“The sea’s a short walk away and there are great views of the mountains that can’t be blocked by future developments,” she says.

Flying high?

It’s a good time to invest in this emerging tourist destination now that the economy’s picked up since the global crash – “and it’s faring better than many other overseas property markets,” adds Reynolds. Also, Montenegro Airlines offers new direct flights from Stansted to Tivat, benefiting those buying Montenegrin homes.
