Casa Alice is a comfortable and well-furnished 3 bedroom apartment on the first floor of the former rectory of the Borgo di Bucciano, with views over the hilltops towards the distant Apuan mountains. The interior has been recently refurbished, with care taken to maintain its classic feel and to highlight the beauty of the exposed chestnut ceiling beams. The apartment’s main living accommodation consists of a single large drawing-dining room/kitchen with a sofa bed for an additional two guests if required. Two of the double bedrooms are reached from here via an anteroom that also connects to a bathroom with shower. Both of these bedrooms overlook the central piazza of the Borgo and its medieval chapel.The third double bedroom, accessed directly from the main living room, has an en suite bathroom with shower and overlooks the edge of the piazza and the hill country to the west.The rental price includes all heating, hot water and towels/linen, with a washing machine also provided. There is no landline telephone, but mobile phone coverage is strong.Guests have unlimited access to the grounds of the Borgo, including shared use of a panoramically positioned swimming pool located on the hillside.
Borgo di Bucciano is a restored hamlet dating from the 12th century that was once a cardinal’s residence. Arrived at by ascending a winding, cypress-lined drive it enjoys a panoramic high hilltop position overlooking a classic Tuscan landscape of olives, cypress trees and dense woodland. The nearby village of La Serra (2.5 km) has shops with basic provisions, while the small town of San Miniato (8 km) offers a wider range of shops, restaurants and buildings of historic and cultural interest. Further afield but within easy access are San Gimignano (about 35 km), Pisa (40 km) and Florence (45 km).
