(two titles – subject to final survey), with 22.5ha currently in production located at Pisa. This area is described as “the golden mile” by local winemakers – producing some of Central Otago’s best pinot noir. Across the two adjoining vineyards combined annual production is 8000 cases of pinot noir and 2000 cases of Riesling.

Pisa Range Estate was one of the pioneer vineyards established in 1995 in the sub-region of the Cromwell Basin. It has established export markets in Australia, UK, Hong Kong, USA, Singapore, Canada, Cayman Islands and Japan. Of the approximately 71ha (156 acres) of land across both properties, 22.5ha (56 acres) are planted in premium pinot noir and Riesling vines. The pinot noir is made up of a number of clones and ranges from mature vines coming into their 14th year to younger 5 year old vines. A new variety to New Zealand – Gruner Veltliner will also be added to the portfolio with planting planned for spring 2008.
These established well managed properties located 10km north of Cromwell, Central Otago offer excellent water supply with two bores and additional land suitable for grape production allowing for expansion. Pisa Range Estate and Torr Estate are accredited Members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. Pisa Range Estate is also a member of Bio-dynamic Assn. of NZ.

The latest edition of Hugh Johnson & Jancis Robinson’s World Atlas of Wine 6th Edition – lists Pisa Range Estate. Wine commentator Robert Joseph lists Pisa Range Estate as one of New Zealand’s best pinot noir producers describing the winery “a rising star”.
