Finca Los Ciervos was built on one of the oldest family estates in Marbella, dating from the beginning of the 19th century when it was known as Finca El Cuzcuz. Approached by a 500 metre private road and two sets of electronic security gates, this family residence is an extraordinary reconstruction combining the finest in historic architecture with all the comforts of modern, stylish living.
Encompassing over 5,000 hectares of woodland, the present owners acquired the best part of 5.84 hectares of this fine estate, renowned for its magnificent countryside set amid cork trees, pine copses and the sweet scented oasis of herb gardens. The magical views of the coastline stretch from the east of Marbella to Gibraltar, and on a clear day, the Atlas Mountains of north-western Africa can be seen.
In 1997, the architects Eduardo de Llano and Antonio Martin were appointed to design a finca with historical style, original materials and state-of-the art conveniences. The project took four years to complete and a luxurious, 21st century country home was created for the present family. Specialist artisans were hired to create the impressive interiors personally chosen by the owners; these include the eye-catching ceiling which is carved with wood beams from an old windmill in the south of France, the original terracotta tiling from centuries-old Spanish farmhouses and the grand carved doors from old castles in Northern Spain. The walls compliment the terracotta flooring and are painted in authentic Italian style stucco which simulate a faux stone design and are smooth to the touch. Many of the special features of the house comprise rooms with grandeur, symmetry and high vaulted ceilings, five metre high carved oak entrance doors acquired from a Spanish monastery and polished oak flooring from 200 year old Spanish wine barrels. The carefully planned layout also consists of hidden courtyards and interior cobbled patios which allow for light into the house and provide perfect tranquil settings. The garden is laid with velvety green golfing grass and is sheltered by mature oak, pine and cypress trees. Pretty pink bougainvillea and baby blue agapanthus add a burst of colour to the grounds, while the enticing aroma of jasmine and golden honeysuckle fills the air. Situated east of the garden is the fully equipped hi-tech gymnasium which overlooks the 80 sq m heated swimming pool through its glass doors.
The main entrance to the property is from the north side of the estate, but the owners have created another road from the south. The perimeter has been completely fenced in for ultimate peace of mind and there are gates at both layers of the fences, with security video cameras 24 hours a day. Visitor access can be granted via multiple points in the main house and also from the guest house, the servants quarters and the summer room.
Clearly a true labour of love, this fine residence is a history in the making and a wonderful home for future generations of owners.
