A medieval \'borgo\' or village and castle fortress, with documented evidence of origin dating back as 1198, a period in which it enjoyed a position in borderland territory between Florence and Siena. The surrounding city walls which isolate it from the hill are a significant reminder of a military and defensive past.  Destruction and wars have frequently modified its structure, creating in many situations differing styles and stratifications, but the borgo has apparently managed a certain stylistic balance in its building development.  One can deduce, not having detailed documents or evidence available, that the first part of the construction began in the mid 1700\'s.  Further conversions to the Villa in the 1800\'s and 1900\'s. The entrance to the Villa is placed in the corner at the junction between the \'fabrica\' of the plans of the 1700\'s and the wing which was probably constructed between 1800 and 1900.  At the top, a double columned loggia (lemon grove) was created which looks on to the piazza opposite.  The stables complete the garden with a large salon with a double row of columns divided by a central passage for the horses. Of particular interest is the vast entrance hall of the villa a staircase and gallery with squared columns as well as the countless cellars which once undoubtedly were an important feature of the castle\'s history.  Despite countless historical misadventures, the borgo has remained faithful to its original design, preserving in the 3 principal parallel routes its most distinctive feature together with the walls which enclose it. One can deduce (with evidence in the numerous stone and ceramic coats of arms on the houses) that the presence of the Buoninsegni during their residence on the hill brought modifications and transformations to the estate which have been realized with taste and uniformity of style.  The borgo was also home to 200 "mezzadri&quot
