The Course: Covering 254 hectares on the Knysna cliff-tops in the Western Cape, this 6,992-yard Championship course looks out over both the Knysna Lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Designed by Ronald Fream, it’s a regular Sunshine Tour venue on which the new Open champion, Louis Oostuizen, who hails from just down the road at Mossel Bay, honed his game. Golf carts are obligatory at Pezula and equipped with GPS and computerised scoring, not necessarily a good idea given the effect the aggressive bunkering could have on your card. Clubhouse facilities are truly 5-star.
The Location: On South Africa’s famous Garden Route, a 40-minute flight from Cape Town, Pezula is one of the most luxurious and lowest density developments in the country. Surrounded by rugged cliffs, ancient forests and sheltered beaches, GQ voted it one of the ‘25 of the Sexiest Spots on the Planet’. The secluded Noetzie beach is a gem, and canoeing, horse-riding, tennis and a host of nature-trails, make this an ideal resort for children and outdoor sports. Zachary’s gourmet restaurant at the palatial Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa has won a tureen-full of awards.
Get your own 'clubhouse' at: The newly launched Country Estate has 30 plots averaging 5,000 sq m from just R1.37m (£117,000). Ocean-view plots costs from R2.6m (£226,000). There is also a fractional offering: three weeks a year in a two-bedroom property for just R600,000 (£51,000). Another fractional release of rather larger homes is due in the autumn. Re-sales also come up regularly: Cove House, currently on the market for £4 million, has particularly good feng shui – India Ocean in front, golf course behind.
Celebrity players: Tennis players, Roger Federer and Jonas Bjorkman, golfer Nick Price and South African cricket captain, Graeme Smith are all regulars.
