Over the coming years, as fuel prices rise still further and the Government's commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 starts to impinge on our lives, installing renewable technology in our homes will increasingly become more urgent. Already there are local authorities piloting schemes where people with, for example, solar panels on their roof, or ground source heating, benefit from lower council tax bills. An estimated 100,000 homes across the UK now have some kind of renewable energy source.
